Killigrew Brand
Background
Killigrew Brand thought he had struck it lucky when fresh out of school he landed the job of secondary pilot on a private racing yacht. But a life support disaster left him the sole remaining crew, and lacking the technical skills to deal with any mechanical problems he soon found himself stranded in space. His ship was found by the Penzance, and although he was a pacifist, he reluctantly joined their crew rather than be left to die. He discovered that he got along surprisingly well with the Penzance's Captain, and in addition to working as secondary pilot he was assigned to tutor the Captain's young daughter, Bonnie Anne Talon, in advanced math and subspace navigation.
