White Knight

by Lady Lavender

You are the white knight, you bravely serve your queen.
You seek to find the men of black, you face a foe unseen.
Someday you'll learn the game I play, and that a thing I dread--
For you are a White Knight, and I'm a Pawn of Red.

I've acted as your aide, but that was merely a disguise
And all these years I've offered misdirection fog and lies
Your Holy Grail I've twisted to a purpose of my own
Suborned your skills and talents to a cuase you have not known

No, you are not the sort of man who makes a perfect tool
May task would be much easier if you'd been born a fool
Your honesty and honor make my concience burn and ache
But I'd not wish you less a man -- not for the whole world's sake

You are the white knight, you bravely serve your queen.
You seek to find the men of black, you face a foe unseen.
Someday you'll learn the game I play, and that a thing I dread--
For you are a White Knight, and I'm a Pawn of Red.

I work for House of Diamond I should have a heart of stone
My task is more important and more certain than your own
Yet somehow it still hurts to know the failures you perceive,
My magics cannot aid you -- I can only watch and grieve

I know that you cannot forgive if you find to be true
A possibility that crossed my mind a time or two
What if your foes are out there, though they have not yet appeared
Would you have somehow found them if I hadn't interfered?

You are the white knight, you bravely serve your queen.
You seek to find the men of black, you face a foe unseen.
Someday you'll learn the game I play, and that a thing I dread--
For you are a White Knight, and I'm a Pawn of Red.
