Winner's Choice

by L. Shelby

We've trapped her heart between us two
Her present, and her past
And her pain only deepens
Every second this fight lasts
But here we are, both fighting men,
To hell we've paid our dues.
It takes a real strong man to win this game
And a better man to lose

I thought the right was with me and
I knocked you to the floor
Only then did I find out
Just what we're fighting for!
If you're not guilty, what I've done
Was nothing but abuse.
It takes a real strong man to win this game
And a better man to lose

It's still a strong temptation now
To smash you where you lie
But how was I to know, you'd come
Here hoping you would die!
You almost killed me anyway
You've lost so many screws!
It takes a real strong man to win this game
And a better man to lose

You can't just will the girl to me
You haven't got the right
And neither can I win her, just
By winning this damned fight!
I'd love to see you dead, but not
If I'm the tool you use.
It takes a real strong man to win this game
And a better man to lose

It's been me for me, and you for her
You've the better cause, today
But I'm the only one who has
The strength to walk away!
Between one dead, and both alive
I know what she would choose.
It takes a real strong man to win this game
And a better man to lose

It takes a real strong man to win this game
And a better man to lose...
And a better man to lose...
I'm the better man!

I lose.
